Handling for OhiOcinu's '78 Ford F150 XLT 1.5

3.060

Get the truck here: https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/1978-ford-f150-xlt-add-on

Version 1.5 fixes some minor body/suspension behavior issues that only showed up for vanilla materials.dat users. I'm sorry for anyone that had a poor experience with the last upload and this version should be much more realistic on vanilla materials.dat.

This handling is based on real life first hand experience with these trucks.

400 M V8
160 HP (NET Rating)
230 HP (Gross Rating)
100 MPH
Full time 4x4 unless someone comes up with a mod that lets us switch.
Acceleration is good for such a large vehicle thanks to a large torquey 400 cubic inch V8, a low 4.10 final drive ratio and a sturdy, well geared 4 speed manual transmission. Top speed is fairly low thanks to the low gearing but 100 MPH is fast enough in something that handles like this.
Handles loose, slick and bumpy terrain very well. It's shear width and surprisingly effective yet lose feeling suspension means that it is
less likely to roll over than most other large 4x4 trucks despite being all over the road at speed.

If using a modded materials.dat like my Realistic Traction Overhaul mod
then you WILL NOT be able to stop on steep inclines made of loose terrain.
To make this more managable CREEP downhill as slowly as possible when offroading. I know this can be frustrating but for now it's small price to pay for massive realism improvements in other areas. I am working on a solution to this.

"Competition" suspension is stock ride height, "Stock" suspension setting is actually lifted height. Just like real life stock suspension height (competition) gets much better traction on steep hills and is less likely to roll over when offroading or driving aggressively. Upgrading to offroad tires actually does improve your offroad traction in GTAV so offroad tires, engine and transmission upgrades, turbo, and competition suspension will all help you offroad much better than stock if you want to get a little more out of it.

I've spent countless hours getting the center of gravity to perform properly with offroad vehicles and setting up a handling meta that is both low traction AND high center of gravity is very difficult and time consuming. Rollovers were originally possible when I first made this handling but making it possible to rollover on multiple materials.dat settings made it roll too often to be fun or realistic so I settled for pulling one or more tire off the ground when turning under high G forces but without quite enough traction to roll completely unless you are on an uneven surface.

The 1965-1979 Ford F series is an absolute legend of a truck.
Revered as one of the most robust, resilient and reliable
civilian market utility vehicles ever produced.
This generation of Ford pickup is where the motto "Built Ford Tough" was earned and this design was so successful that it ran for over ten years with only cosmetic changes and minor improvements made every so often.
Interestingly the F100 through F350 of this generation all had the same body
which cut production costs for Ford greatly and also makes for a very large and heavy duty line of trucks.
This generation of F series was the most popular work truck of its era and many are still being used worldwide to this day. Fords engines from this time period were well known for their reliability and I know this first hand as my beat up 73 Mustang is still going strong on the original engine over 40 years, and a broken odometer later!
Fords "9 inch" rear axles are also so well known for their durability that swap kits and instructions are made for fitting them into hundreds of different high power RWD vehicles. On top of all that the the twin I beam front suspension on the 2wd models lends itself very well to the rigors of off roading.
So well in fact, that over 50 years later modern state of the art high dollar
trophy trucks still use this same basic twin I beam front suspension design
and as a result many classic Ford 2wd pickups have been converted into
highly competitive vintage off road racers.
The 4x4's front axle is a "solid" unit made by Dana likewise known for durability. This single piece solid front axle design is often preferred over jointed modern counterparts by hardcore off road enthusiasts for it's durability, dependability and reliability.

Inverse power by IKT and my realistic traction overhaul mod are both STRONGLY recommended for max traction realism on and off road.
