@skelepap This mod allows the game to simulate thermals, which are rising columns of relatively warm air that move from the lower to upper atmosphere. Normally, gliders, skydivers and parachuters use this to stay up longer, as the rising air provides lift.
tnx
Is there a newer video of the thermal strength? Ideally we could have something closer to Pilotwings 64, such as in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY6x8K6Y14Y, where you will gain a small amount of *acceleration* rather than direct *translation*, which will fade in or out as you enter or exit the radius or column height of the thermal. It's OK to have *strong* thermals so long as they aren't so jarring -- remember, this is still air swirling around, not the almighty hand of Zeus. =)
A rate of climb of roughly 1 m/s is realistic, but a rate of climb of up to 10 m/s (as in Pilotwings) would be forgivable for most players.
@jtgibson No, there is no newer video but I will be working on one after the next update. Thanks for your feedback, improving the thermals is first on my ToDo-list.
Good job, thanks.
You should rename your mod Thermal Winds. It's genuinely confusing, there's already the term thermal used in the game.
@The_XXI I'm sorry but i don't understand your point...
@TheSwaggomat Bear with me, stay open minded, think international...
Thermals, for a 12-30 yo average english speaker, are devices made to see thermal imagery. The game itself, GTA V, already uses the term thermals to name the thermal goggles and thermal scope, once again, referring the thermal imagery not thermal winds.
Now, thermals can also be used for thermal winds, but this term is really less known among people, and even less for non native english speakers, which are numerous on this website.
So, people can confuse your mod to be thermal imagery related when it's not, or even, people may search for wind related mods but will never find yours because there isn't the word wind in the title. I invite you to change that so it is user friendly. You do what you want, if you don't see my point, I can't help you further.
Have a good week dude.
@TheSwaggomat And for the fucking love of god put a space between the words in the title, searches are word related, not content related, at this stage people can only find your mod in searches if they search for "RealisticThermals", it won't appear under "realistic", nor under "thermals". It should be "Realistic Thermal Winds".
@The_XXI Ok, now I understand your point. I'm not a native English speaker myself and it might be my personal knowledge about thermals as a meteorologic phenomenon that lead me to not think about the possibility of misunderstanding the term. I will think about changing the name to a more easily understandable one by a broader audience. Your comment concerning the searchability made me think when i search for "Thermals" or "isticTherm" suggests that the search is based on the characters in the title string "RealisticThermals" but when I search for "Realistic Thermals" it does not show this mod. I dont think a "good" search algorithm should do that. The naming of the mod is totally down to my preference and it might not be the "best" but ill stick with it concerning the using of spaces. I really appreciate your feedback though.
@TheSwaggomat
"Here's a way to find your mod better and make people understand what it is."
-No thank youuu, my personal choice is better than the user experience."
Why the fuck did you say "I'll think about changing the name", and "I'll stick with the current name" in the same fucking comment? You went full retard.
@The_XXI xD
@skelepap Yeah me too
@Ghipoor Gaming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal This is a short wikipedia article that explains the concept of thermals. This mod trys to simulate it.
@TheSwaggomat Thanks bro
@TheSwaggomat Why do you have so much pride and stubbornness? Don't you see your title is confusing for the users? Aren't you making this mod for the users, isn't that why you're publishing it? So people can find it and enjoy it?
"Realistic Thermals" is a godawful name for a mod that just adds updrafts.
@TheSwaggomat: Just to stick up for you, even if it's been a long time since it's been relevant, I'm a native English speaker and know for a fact that the term "thermal" means "thermal updraft" by default. "Thermals" referring to infrared vision equipment is slang, largely peculiar to the gaming and military community. By now, with more popular awareness of the term, it may be almost as common or even have supplanted the original definition, but "thermals" have been thermal updrafts since the dirigible and hot-air ballooning eras -- "thermals" as the goggles only arose in the last thirty years. Honestly I can't fathom why anyone would rate something poorly just because they misinterpreted what it actually meant on the basis of not knowing the alternative/original definition of the word. Even though the basis of communication is being understood, the lack of understanding isn't your fault in this case. =)
I'm also fairly sure that the vanilla game only refers to "thermal vision" explicitly in both the helicopter missions that use it, not to "thermals"...
Looks and sounds cool, unfortunately, it doesn't appear to work anymore, and the other download link no longer works. :(
